Leicester City Women have signed the hugely experienced Ashleigh Neville from Tottenham Hotspur Women on an 18 month deal, in a move that will help steady their back line as they try and stay in the Women’s Super League.
Neville, now 32, arrives at the King Power Stadium after almost a decade in North London helping shape Tottenham into an established top flight club. Now, the Foxes hope that her vast experience will help carry them over the line in a hugely competitive WSL campaign.
Over 150 appearances for Spurs, and before that four seasons with Coventry City in the Women’s Premier League South, where she racked up close to 70 games. Her longevity is one of the stories on the WSL.
This is a real landmark signing for Leicester City, who are currently ninth in the WSL standings before the league returns to action this weekend. And as a coincidence Neville’s new club take on her old one this Sunday, so could make an instant return to her old stomping ground at the BetWright Stadium.
Speaking to Foxes Hub, after her arrival, Ashleigh said.
“She’s gone from amateur football through to the professional era and seen the growth of the game, and of Tottenham. She’s been a part of it. “It will probably be a sad and emotional time for her to leave a club she has grown with. I’m sure the fans and her team-mates really appreciate what she’s done.”
