Marti Cifuentes is looking to bolster Leicester City’s attacking options ahead of the September transfer deadline and, according to Pete O’Rourke, the Foxes have made an enquiry to sign Millwall frontman Mihailo Ivanovic.
Foxes Interested in Ivanovic
Cifuentes’ side have endured a poor start to the season. After narrowly beating a Sheffield Wednesday side riddled with off-field issues, the Foxes were then knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League One Huddersfield Town.
A defeat on Saturday at the hands of Preston North End followed, with 16-year-old Jeremy Monga becoming the youngest ever Championship goalscorer. The youngster beat the previous record set by Jude Bellingham.
Millwall have endured a similarly poor start in the league. It’s been one win and one loss for Alex Neil’s side, with a two-one win away at Norwich City followed by a disappointing three-nil loss at The Den to Middlesbrough.
However, the Lions are through to the second round of the Carabao Cup after beating League Two Newport County.
With an ageing Jordan Ayew and a below-par Patson Daka, the Foxes are looking to bolster their attacking options with the signing of Mihailo Ivanovic.
At just 20 years of age, Ivanovic scored 12 times in 40 Championship appearances last season as Millwall narrowly missed out on the play-offs. The Serbian striker moved to The Den in the summer of 2024 from Vojvodina. The Novi Sad-born man signed a long-term deal with The Lions.
After a breakout campaign in the Championship last season, Premier League sides Wolves and Everton were both interested in the Serbian striker in July. However, that interest has now cooled.
Darren Witcoop reported that Millwall were looking for a fee of around £15 million in order to part ways with Ivanovic last month.
This price will likely be driven up as desperation kicks in towards the end of the transfer window. The young striker would be a smart signing for the Foxes; however the Midlands-based side may be priced out of a move here by Millwall, who are in no rush to sell.
