Leyton Orient Agree Deal For Talented League One Winger to Potentially Overtake Promotion Rivals

Leyton Orient

Randell Williams has been at Bolton Wanderers since January 2023 but it is clear that he has not fulfilled his entire potential ahead of a reported move to Leyton Orient on transfer deadline day.

The 28-year-old winger is comfortable on either flank and has made 16 appearances for Bolton Wanderers in League One in the current season, seven of which have been starts.

Williams Fails to Build on Exeter City Heroics

The 2019/20 League Two campaign highlighted the player as a Football League star, as he registered five goals and 14 assists in the fourth tier for Exeter City.

Williams topped the charts for key passes and successful dribbles per game but the player has failed to fulfil that promise in subsequent moves to Hull City and Bolton Wanderers.

The 2023/24 season seen the winger roll back the years at times and he played a role in the Trotters reaching the play-offs, scoring in the semi-final first-leg win over Barnsley.

His total of 1.8 key passes and 1.3 shots per game were impressive attacking metrics and Williams had not reached that level since playing for Exeter City.

There is a talented player in there that needs more regular game time and a move to Leyton Orient may just be the outlet he needs to revitalise his career.

According to Pete O’Rourke, the two clubs have agreed a deal for the player to leave Bolton and link up with Richie Wellens at Leyton Orient.

Leyton Orient Wide Options May Help to Hold Playoff Position

Despite a 1-0 defeat to Stockport County at the weekend, Leyton Orient occupy a top-six place due to an impressive run of nine wins and two draws in their previous 11 League One outings.

Should they complete a deal for Williams, he will link up with what appears to be an impressive line-up of wide players.

He would join the likes of Dilan Markanday and Sonny Perkins in competing for a role in wide areas. Ollie O’Neil is another major option and if the players are grouped there are very few, if any, clubs in League One that can boast such an array of talent in one position.

Markanday is a major goalscoring threat who is comfortable taking on any defenders at this level, O’Neil has an exceptional work rate and can be crucial when the team is out of possession, Perkins has a high ceiling for potential and can be a creative force while Williams can arguably do all of the above on his day.

It is an exciting move for Leyton Orient that will elevate their attacking options to a level that will be the envy of their League One rivals.
