Leyton Orient have identified a new loanee goalkeeper following Daniel Bachmann’s injury.
The Austrian goalkeeper arrived on loan at Brisbane Road earlier this week, but an issue during the warm-up of their game against Port Vale has cast the remainder of the season in doubt for the Watford man.
Hoops Backup Heads South
According to the Daily Record, Richie Wellens has picked Celtic‘s Tobi Oluwayemi as his new replacement for Bachmann, with the 22-year-old set to head to London.
Despite never making the senior team at Parkhead, he has enjoyed a series of loan spells elsewhere in his career, most recently at Kilmarnock as an emergency backup in the wake of an injury crisis at Rugby Park.
He played 13 times in Ayrshire, keeping a single clean sheet and making 46 saves before returning to Glasgow in January.
He has also featured for Dumfirmline Athletic, Cork City in Ireland and Austrian outfit Admira Wacker as well as representing England at youth level.
Orient are down to two options between the sticks, with Killian Cahill making his 16th appearance of the season following Bachmann’s injury against Port Vale.
Is Oluwayemi A Good Choice?
Representing a team that has been up against it for large parts of the season, Tobi Oluwayemi gave a good account of himself while on emergency loan at Kilmarnock and can carry that with him to Leyton Orient.
With Richie Wellens side losing out on Daniel Bachmann in such unlucky circumstances, it seems that they have opted against finding another experienced option and once more gone for a younger player, which worked so well for them with Josh Keeley last season.
Oluwayemi may not have featured much for Kilmarnock, but he did admirably and matches against St. Mirren and Dundee United can point to things to come, making seven saves and keeping a clean sheet in the former, while saving a penalty in the latter.

Whether he comes to Brisbane Road as Richie Wellens’ new first-choice goalkeeper or as a backup to Killian Cahill is up in the air, but given his status, the former Shamrock Rovers man should be allowed to develop further as a permanently contracted player for Orient.
