Leyton Orient are set to fend off interest from rival teams for their in-demand manager Richie Wellens with a bumper new deal that could be the “biggest in League One”.
The O’s missed out on promotion to the Championship last season after failing to beat Charlton Athletic at Wembley in the play-off final. Nathan Jones’ side triumphed 1-0 in a tight affair.
Despite the failure to step up to the second tier, the performances of the team, throughout the majority of the season gained plaudits. The club were languishing towards the bottom of the table in 2024, before a remarkable run skyrocketed them to the play-off spots.
This run, coupled with the impressive performances have put Richie Wellens at the top of the shopping list of many clubs in the EFL.

Leyton Orient‘s new owners are keen to tie down the talented manager by offering him a “bumper” new deal that according to Alan Nixon could “be the biggest in League One“.
Wellens has previously had spells at Oldham Athletic, Swindon Town, Doncaster Rovers and Salford City but his three year stay with Leyton Orient now looks likely to continue.

What Next for Leyton Orient?
If the club manage to get the deal over the line it will be a statement of intent from the club, who are having to rebuild part of their successful squad. Charlie Kelman, last season’s top scorer is set to return to parent club QPR whilst a big chunk of their squad including Jamie Donley, Josh Keeley and Jack Currie are all loan players.
Wellens will know that replacing many of these stars will be difficult, but with the new found wealth and success this season the club are arguably in a much better position this summer transfer window than they were last year.
