Lincoln City: Out-of-Contract Star Spotted in Training Video

Eagle-eyed Lincoln City fans have spotted out of contract defender Lewis Montsma in a training video posted by the club.

The 26-year-old missed the entirety of last season due to an ACL injury that returned after a previous enforced stint on the sidelines.

Future Not Officially Confirmed:

The future of Lewis Montsma has not been officially confirmed by Lincoln City, while it has been made clear that fellow out-of-contract duo Danny Mandroiu and Ted Bishop are “unlikely” to re-sign for the Imps ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The Dutch centre-back’s contract status has not been disclosed since the annual retained list declared that he was in continued negotiations with the SkyBet League One outfit.

He joined Lincoln in the summer of 2020, but has managed just 67 league appearances in the subsequent four years. Forty of those came in his first season in Lincolnshire, while he made 19 in the 2021/22 campaign, nine in the 2022/23 term, and none last time out.

Lincoln City Spending a Week in Spain:

Michael Skubala‘s men, including most-recent new recruit Tendayi Darikwa, have embarked on a week in Spain as part of their pre-season schedule.

They will train in the Mediterranean heat, before facing SkyBet Championship side Preston North End in a friendly at the end of the week. The game will take place in San Pedro del Pinatar, in south-eastern Spain.

During the first day’s training, Lincoln City posted a video of “behind-the-scenes footage” to their X (formerly Twitter) account, which featured Montsma training in the background. A number of Imps fans took to social media after spotting the centre-back.

Is Montsma Staying or Going? – Opinion:

We will have to wait for official word on if Montsma is staying or going, but the footage from Lincoln City’s warm weather training camp would indicate that the defender is set to re-sign for the club.

The other alternative would be that he is simply regaining fitness with the squad before finding another club, but I personally think that is the less likely of the two options.

That being said, only time will tell.
