A Lincoln City youngster has committed his future to the club with the signing of a new contract.
Jovon Makama has penned a new three-year deal with the SkyBet League One side, keeping him at the LNER Stadium until 2027.
Impressive Form:
The news comes after an impressive run of form for the young forward. He scored the opening goal in Lincoln City’s most recent win, over Leyton Orient. His diving header put the cherry on a supporter-voted man of the match performance, where he led the line and caused a constant headache for Richie Wellens’ men.
The victory over the O’s was the City academy graduate’s 50th league appearance for the club.
He featured alongside fellow Lincoln youngsters Freddie Draper and Sean Roughan, the latter also representing his Republic of Ireland at under-21s level.
What Has Been Said?
The 20-year-old striker spoke to Lincoln City’s club website, and said: “I’m really pleased to see that the club are showing faith in me by offering me another deal and am looking forward to seeing what the future holds.
“I have had a good start to the season and have made an impact in most games. Once I got that first goal, I was looking for the next one and cannot wait to score more goals and impact every game.
“I’m getting picked ahead of really good strikers and feel more established in the first team – I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
City director of football Jez George added: “Jovon’s development over this calendar year has been impressive. Every young player’s pathway is different and, knowing Jovon’s character plus his ability to impact a game as a substitute, we thought his development was better served with us last season rather than being out on loan.”
Good News for Lincoln City – Opinion:
The fact that Jovon Makama has committed the next few years of his career to Lincoln City is great news for the club. He is a real asset. He is young, pacey, strong, and adding a real attacking threat to his game.
Makama is in a strong vein of form, and netted the goal that deserved in the 2-1 win over Leyton Orient last weekend.
The youngster is one of a number of attacking options at Sincil Bank now, with Sheffield Wednesday loanee Bailey Cadamarteri, fellow academy graduate Freddie Draper, summer recruit Rob Street, and ever-reliable Ben House all competing for the same couple of places in the Imps line-up.
And that is excluding former Coventry City striker Tyler Walker, who is on the injury list after a latest set back during Lincoln’s pre-season camp in Spain.
The words from Jez George stand out to me, as it seemed to be the conventional wisdom that Makama would be heading out on loan at the start of the current season. However, staying at Lincoln City has turned out to be a shrewd move, as he is adding valuable intent and desire to the Imps frontline.
