League One sides Lincoln City and Blackpool are competing to sign midfielder Brandon Khela from Championship newcomers Birmingham City, who helped Bradford City win promotion from League Two last season.
The 20-year-old is currently contracted to the Blues until 2027 having progressed through the club’s youth academy. He spent time on loan at Ross County in 2024.
Khela then moved to the Bantams on loan in the January transfer window and went on to make 15 appearances as Graham Alexander‘s side earned automatic promotion to return to League One.
Lincoln City and Blackpool Transfer Interest in Brandon Khela from Birmingham City Emerges
Lincoln City and Blackpool have been credited with interest in the young midfielder by FLW, who claim that a permanent move could be on the cards. Birmingham City are seeking to offload some of their more fringe players as their large and talented squad prepares for their return to Championship football.
Lincoln are expecting Ethan Erhahon to depart the club this summer, which will leave space in the midfield and likely funds to pursue a deal for an up and coming star. The Imps often favour the signing of younger players with the aim to develop them into first team stars. They are already looking to replace the likes of Sean Roughan who has joined Huddersfield Town and Paudie O’Connor who is in talks with Derby County.
Blackpool on the other hand have already been busy with the additions of Fraser Horsfall and Ihiekwe as Steve Bruce looks to strengthen his side in his first full summer transfer window since joining the Seasiders last season.
Khela’s Best Chance May be Away from Birmingham City
With the huge amount of talent at the Blues‘ disposal and stars such as Tomoki Iwata and Paik Seung-ho firmly in the first team opportunities to break through at St Andrew’s will be limited. Which will mean that if he wants to ensure he has opportunities he may need to move away. Lincoln in particular are known for giving young talent a route into the first team with Roughan, Makama, Erhahon, Draper and others all clear examples of this.
