Championship promotion candidates Burnley and West Brom are two of four clubs reportedly interested in signing Lincoln City midfielder Ethan Erhahon, who has starred for the Imps since joining from Scottish Premiership side St.Mirren in the 2023 January transfer window.

The 23-year-old has made 77 appearances for Lincoln City and was awarded the club’s Player of the Season award in 2023/24 after playing in 50 matches in all competitions and contributing two goals and four assists.

Lincoln City Midfielder Enjoys Glowing Reputation After Impressing in League One

Lincoln City fell just short of a play-off place in League One last season but they did boast one of the most impressive defensive midfielders in the Football League in their side. Ethan Erhahon ranked first at the club for successful tackles and interceptions per game, with the midfielder also ranking first in the latter metric in the current campaign.

The former Scottish under-21 international is a natural in the six role and there are very few players in the EFL who can match his defensive contributions over the last 18 months. He ranked in the top ten for successful tackles and interceptions per game of all players in League One in 2023/24, playing a key role in a side that conceded just 40 times in 46 League One outings.

Ethan Erhahon is also comfortable on the ball, ranking in the top five for successful dribbles and completed passes at Lincoln City in 2023/24 but it is his ability to break up play that will be interesting sides higher up the pyramind. The midfielder has played ninety minutes in all six League One fixtures this season, taking the captain’s armband in the opening-day victory over Burton Albion.

Burnley and West Brom Interested in Big Money Move For Ethan Erhahon

TBR Football are reporting that Burnley, West Brom, Hull and Norwich City are eyeing up the midfielder in the January transfer window. The same report gives a quote from Lincoln City Director of Football Jez George, who admitted in May he would be surprised if the player did not become the most expensive export in the club’s history should he leave. He was also expecting interest from Championship clubs, with Jez George stating:

“I don’t think clubs in the Championship will be doing their jobs properly if there wasn’t interest.

“He has been exceptional.

“It’s about career progression and the right club.

“So, if the right club comes in with the right financial package for Ethan that could be life changing, quadrupling his wages, and it is an absolutely huge number for Lincoln City, then as a football club we have to look at that.”

Ethan Erhahon has the skillset to be a success in the second tier and may need to move to develop his game if Lincoln City fail to gain promotion from League One this season. It is not inconceivable that he could one day be playing his trade in the Premier League, so a move to a club such as Burnley or West Brom, who have started the campaign in good form and look to be promotion contenders, may appeal to the Scottish midfielder. This will be a story to watch unfold in the winter transfer window.
