Lincoln City have confirmed the departure of Ethan Hamilton, who has featured in all five of the club’s League One fixtures this season.

Since joining from Accrington Stanley in 2023, the Scotsman has been a mainstay in the Imps’ matchday squads.

Injuries had come between the midfielder and a starting place; however, he has tallied a total of 82 appearances for the club.

Ethan Hamilton Departs Lincoln City

Announced via the club’s official website, the midfielder has signed a deal at Scottish Premiership side Dundee FC for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old has penned a 3-year contract with The Dee, having played his whole career in the English divisions.

Hamilton is regarded for his solid engine in the middle, with an exceptional drive to move the ball forward.

Also no stranger to the scoresheet, the Scot was particularly prolific in his Accrington Stanley days, where he returned 14 goals in 87 appearances.

While the midfielder’s place in the Imps’ first team was lost, he was no doubt an important figure in the squad.

Moreover, the midfielder provided an excellent level of depth and was a highly dependable option for Michael Skubala.

What Next for Lincoln City?

The summer window has been relatively quiet for the Lincolnshire outfit; however, they will likely dip into the market for a new depth option in the closing stages of the window.

Central defensive duo Ryley Towler and Sonny Bradley joined the Imps, providing an excellent mix of potential and experience.

Meanwhile, Everton forward Francis Okoronkwo presents a potentially exciting option for Skubala, after the youngster joined on loan.

Defensive midfielder Ivan Varfolomeev is a particularly exciting signing, adding to the quality of Tom Bayliss and Conor McGrandles.

Therefore, the options present at the club did make it difficult for Hamilton to get consistent gametime.

While the move works well for all parties, it should be anticipated that Lincoln will look to add further options.

What has been said?

Lincoln City’s director of football, Jez George, has made it clear that the departure should prove positive for all parties:

In an interview on the Imps’ website, the director said:

“There has been interest in Ethan this summer and, following the signing of Ivan last week, we decided that if a club met our valuation we would allow Ethan to leave for regular first-team football.

“Ethan has a desire to start games every week, so this became an opportunity that is right for all parties. Ethan is a top character,

“who leaves with the respect of everyone at the club, and we sincerely wish him well in the next chapter of his career at Dundee.”
