Lincoln City Duo “Unlikely” to Feature Next Season

Lincoln City

It appears “unlikely” that Danny Mandroiu and Ted Bishop will play in Lincoln City shirts again, after comments made by the club’s CEO Liam Scully.

In an interview on BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Red Imps Club podcast, Lincoln’s chief executive said the balance of probabilities indicates that the out of contract duo will not re-sign with the club.

What Has Liam Scully Said?

Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire journalist Michael Hortin, the Imps CEO revealed that conversations with Bishop and Mandroiu were “coming to the end”.

He said: “We offered terms, and at the time they weren’t deemed accepted… I would probably say, on the balance of probability, it would be unlikely that we will see either of those two in a Lincoln City shirt again.”

Scully did leave a slither of hope that one, or both, of the pair may remain at the LNER Stadium, saying that the door might be “just slightly” open.

A Summer of Transfers at Lincoln City:

The headline news of Lincoln City’s summer so far has been the exit of wing-back Lasse Sorensen, as he left the club for fellow SkyBet League One club Huddersfield Town.

In the retained list, issued in May, Doncaster Rovers loanee Hakeeb Adelakun, and former Tottenham Hotspur youngster TJ Eyoma were released. At the time, Bishop, Mandroiu, and Dutch defender Lewis Montsma remained in discussions with the club at the expiry of their contracts.

Mandroiu and Bishop:

Irishman Mandriou joined Lincoln City in 2022, and has since been employed in a variety of positions. As a winger, attacking midfielder, and more recently as a central midfielder, the 25-year-old has made 65 appearances across two seasons.

He played 36 games last term, scoring eight goals and assisting a further five. However, the red mist descended for the former Shamrock Rovers man twice in the campaign.

Ted Bishop joined the season prior, in 2021, when he left Ipswich Town. Over three campaigns with the Imps, he made 111 all competition appearances. The lively midfielder managed 31 goal involvements across his spell in Lincolnshire.

No Real Surprise – Opinion:

Given the transfer rumour mill strongly linking Shrewsbury midfielder Tom Bayliss to Lincoln City, it comes as no real surprise that there are players leaving the club in that department.

The re-signing of Charlton Athletic midfielder Conor McGrandles also pointed to the idea that Bishop and Mandroiu may be on their way out of Lincoln.

The candid words of the CEO indicate that the pair will not be seen in City colours again, as Michael Skubala readies for a first full season at the helm.
