Blackpool announced they are set to release defender Jordan Gabriel this summer after falling down the pecking order for Steve Bruce’s side. THE DECK exclusively revealed that Burton Albion, Reading, Doncaster Rovers and Notts County were amongst several League One, Championship and League Two sides interested but now several other teams have been credited with an interest.
The 26-year-old right-back has been with Blackpool permanently since 2021, having previously spent a time with the club on loan from Nottingham Forest in the previous season.
He was a key part of the club’s defence and went on to make 142 appearances for the Seasiders including 41 in the Championship after being part of the side that earned promotion in 2020/21 by beating Lincoln City at Wembley in the play-off final.
However, this season has not gone to plan for the former Forest man. When experienced boss Steve Bruce was appointed it appeared as though Gabriel had earned a spot in his side as a more permanent fixture, with some solid performances. But as time went on he found his game time limited and often left on the bench, or used in small cameo appearances towards the end of games. From the 1st of December onwards he only played 90 minutes once, but prior to that date he had played the full game on nine occasions.
But now he is set to depart as a free agent with interest hotting up.
Lincoln City Reignite Interest Alongside League One Rivals
Lincoln City were previously interested in a move for Gabriel, battling with Oxford for his signature last summer but ultimately no move came to fruition. It was unknown at the end of the season whether the Imps would once again try to convince him to move to Sincil Bank, and according to Football League World they have. Michael Skubala’s side are set to lose Paudie O’Connor and Sean Roughan from their defensive line-ups this season and will be on the look-out for reinforcements across the back four/five.
THE DECK, revealed that Reading, Burton Albion, Doncaster Rovers and Notts County were amongst the clubs interested in trying to sign Gabriel this summer, and it has now been discovered that they are joined by Lincoln City, Port Vale, Mansfield Town and Northampton Town in a monumental transfer struggle for his signature.
It is understood that several other League One and Championship sides are yet to be named as they weigh up their options.
