Lincoln City “Keeping an Eye” on Plymouth Argyle Man

Lincoln City are reportedly “keeping an eye” on a SkyBet Championship midfielder, as the end of the summer transfer window draws closer.

It has been reported by Alan Nixon (on his paywalled Patreon account) that the Imps are monitoring Callum Wright’s future at Plymouth Argyle. City are preparing to make a move for the former Leicester City youngster if it becomes clear that he is not a key part of new Plymouth boss Wayne Rooney’s plans.

Michael Skubala Seeking Depth:

The reports from Nixon come the morning after Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala revealed the higher-ups at the LNER Stadium are “still looking” and “still working” on the transfer front.

Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire journalist Michael Hortin, after his side lost to Barnsley, he said: “We still need some depth to the team, I think we can see that. But, let’s see.”

Callum Could be the ‘Wright’ Fit:

Wright has started neither of Plymouth’s first two Championship games, but did make his way into the starting 11 for their Carabao Cup victory over Cheltenham Town. Former Manchester United and Everton legend Wayne Rooney took charge of the club this summer, and is seemingly still assessing who makes it into the first-choice line-up.

Wright, who is 24 years old, joined Argyle in January 2023, after leaving fellow seasiders Blackpool. He spent time in Blackburn Rovers’ academy, before making a switch to Leicester City’s youth ranks earlier in his career.

He has made more than 50 appearances for Plymouth, including in League One. Also, Wright played 34 third tier games for Cheltenham Town during a loan spell.

Lincoln City Not the Finished Article – Opinion:

Callum Wright would add more depth to Lincoln City’s squad, something that Michael Skubala himself has admitted is needed. However, I don’t think the area that needs to come in is the centre of the park.

The Imps midfield has seen somewhat of an overhaul this summer, and is arguably the most packed area of the pitch for the League One side. Up front, with the injury of Tyler Walker, and in defence, are the areas I believe Lincoln need to add a bit more quality before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.
