Lincoln City welcomed popular loanee Joe Taylor to Sincil Bank last season and it almost rewarded them with a top six finish, but now it appears as though his replacement could be on the way.
The Imps began the campaign with a 3-2 victory against Burton Albion, before slipping to defeats against Harrogate Town (EFL Cup) and Barnsley.
Despite scoring five goals this season, only two of them have been scored by attacking players which may have forced Michael Skubala to dive back into the market for another striker to improve their goalscoring tally.
Championship forward on Lincoln’s radar
As reported by journalist Joe Crann, Lincoln City are in negotiations with Sheffield Wednesday to sign forward Bailey Cadamarteri on loan for the duration of the 2024/25 campaign.
The forward has already attracted the interest of numerous EFL sides this summer, but it appears as though Lincoln City are leading the race to sign him before the transfer window closes next week.
Fellow journalist Alex Miller has already reported that the forward has been given the green light to leave Sheffield Wednesday on loan.
How did he fare last season?
The 19-year-old made 25 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday in all competitions last season, grabbing five goals in total.
He also featured three times for England’s U21s in matches against Morocco, Sweden and Ireland.
Although he is naturally a centre-forward, Cadamarteri can play as a winger if required which would give Skubala’s side further versatility and depth.
He also featured for Sheffield Wednesday during their EFL Cup match against Hull City last week.
Can he replace Joe Taylor?
Joe Taylor joined Lincoln City on loan in January following an impressive stint with Colchester United during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign.
The Welshman scored ten goals in 19 appearances at Sincil Bank, almost securing them a play-off place until the final day of the season.
Cadamarteri has limited first-team experience but an average of one goal every five matches in the Championship is certainly an exciting proposition for Lincoln City.
Similarly, Lincoln have enjoyed various loanee successes in recent seasons with Taylor and Tyler Walker being strong examples which would also explain why Lincoln could be likely to beat several sides including Wrexham to his signature.
