Lincoln City have secured their replacement for goalkeeper Lukas Jensen, after he joined SkyBet Championship side Millwall.
The Imps have signed 22-year-old shot-stopper George Wickens from Premier League outfit Fulham.
Lincoln City Find Lukas Jensen Replacement:
Wickens has spent his development at Craven Cottage, while also enjoying loan spells at National League Wealdstone and Scottish Premiership side Ross County, where he spent the back-half of last season.
The ‘keeper has a singular international cap, gained when he featured for England under-18s in 2019.
He made 40 appearances for Wealdstone during his time in non-league, while making a baker’s dozen north of the border, for Ross County.
The 22-year-old has signed a four-year deal with Lincoln City, and becomes the club’s new number one after Danish ‘keeper Jensen signed on the dotted line for Millwall earlier in the month.
Revolving Door of Goalkeepers:
Wickens becomes the third ‘keeper to join Lincoln City this summer, while three have also left the Lincolnshire-based outfit. Jordan Wright exited for Grimsby Town, Sam Long left for Bromley, and Jensen headed for The Den in the aforementioned move.
The Imps had already signed former Birmingham City man Zach Jeacock and Cheltenham Town releasee Jamie Pardington, before the latest addition.
A Promising Young Goalkeeper – Opinion:
The SkyBet League One outfit needed to secure themselves a new number one, after one of last season’s top performers exited the club. Jensen missed just one league game last term, when he was switched out of the line-up after suffered a knock in the warm up away to Carlisle United.
George Wickens is one of those goalkeepers that comes with a good track record, and much promise. He is a highly rated ‘keeper, and looks a good signing.
Lincoln City have recruited well in their ‘keeping department, and Imps fans will surely hope that their new man can follow in the footsteps of Carl Rushworth and Lukas Jensen.
Wickens becomes the Imps third signing of the week, after midfielder Dom Jefferies and defender Tom Hamer secured moves to the LNER Stadium.
