Lincoln City are set to add defensive reinforcements to their squad after indicating yesterday that they were open to opportunities but not expecting any business to be done.
The Imps are set to secure 21-year-old Plymouth Argyle left-back Saxon Earley on a loan deal, according to Pete O’Rourke.
Earley has been with the Championship side since January 2023, having previously been at Norwich City from where he enjoyed a spell on loan at Stevenage. Last season he spent the latter half of the campaign at Wycombe Wanderers, but failed to make an appearance despite sitting on the bench for a game in February.
He had three months on the sidelines at the start of the 23/24 season due to requiring surgery on his Ankle. Then-manager Steven Schumacher lamented the loss, after the player had been given his Championship debut shortly before being ruled out. After his recovery he was loaned to Wycombe but a similar injury again ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
Lincoln tend to play with three central defenders and wingbacks with the left hand side having been occupied by Reeco Hackett last season and Dylan Duffy for the majority of this season. It could indicate the player is coming in as a more defensive option on the left side of defence, or his versatility could present him the opportunity to play on the left side of the three, currently occupied by Sean Roughan.
Yesterday local journalist Michael Hortin reported that the Imps were unlikely to sign any players, but were open to opportunities.
“Quick update on Imps All strikers remain. Unlikely to be any signings tomorrow. But Michael has left the door open to opportunities! Ring’s work permit is not done yet, but he has been training well according to Michael. Full interview with Michael Skubala after 6 tonight.”
