A Lincoln City transfer target has confirmed reports that the SkyBet League One club have expressed an interest with him.
The 22-year-old, who has been the focus of rumours surrounding a move to the Imps, even revealed that he has visited the city and the club’s training ground.
Lincoln City Transfer Interest:
Lincoln City’s interest in Swede Erik Ring has been long rumoured, as the club have been investigating the Scandinavian market throughout the transfer window.
In quotes provided to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, and translated by the Imps’ reputable Stacey West fan blog, Ring confirmed the interest. He said: “It was a nice city. Very good conditions with a nice training facility, good grass and several pitches.
“I love being in AIK. I love the club. It’s nice that there is interest from Lincoln. It’s a good team and a better league than many people think.”
AIK’s director of football, Thomas Bernsten, was asked about the interest prior to Ring’s interview, confirmed that a then-unnamed club were “in dialogue” with them over the left winger.
Ring added: “There are a lot of good teams in that division. But, as Thomas [Berntsen, AIK’s director of football] said, it’s up to me. We’ll see how it turns out.”
Will He, Or Won’t He? – Opinion:
This seems like a 50/50 decision at present. Erik Ring is clearly enjoy his time in his homeland, at AIK, but has been impressed by what Lincoln City have brought to the table.
In my opinion, it is a move that would benefit the Imps. Reeco Hackett remains on the Lincoln injury list, while Dylan Duffy’s future is uncertain after he was charged over alleged betting rule breaches last month. That leaves a potential gap down City’s left flank, that Ring could most certainly fill.
The prospect is capped at under-21s level for Sweden, and has come through the youth ranks at his current club, AIK. However, he is yet to make a start for his the outfit this season, and has only made five substitute appearances across 19 league games so far this term.
For me, Ring is an unknown. I would be lying if I said I have watched a second of his time in the Swedish top flight. That being said, he comes with a heap of praise, and there usually there is a fire to go along with the smoke.
Only time will tell if the interest turns into a transfer, as the end of the window edges ever closer.
