Lincoln City win race to sign Premier League striker on loan

Lincoln City have won the race for the loan signing of Luton Town striker Joe Taylor, sources have told Footballer Insider.

It was reported last week that Lincoln were one of a number of League One clubs searching for Taylor’s signature.

The 21-year-old has been recalled from his loan at League Two Colchester United after 12 goals and two assists across 27 appearances for the relegation-threatened outfit.

Transfer Insider’s Pete O’Rourke reported that Bolton Wanderers, Oxford United, Lincoln City and Wycombe Wanderers were mong several third division looking to sign Taylor on loan.

O’Rourke now reports that the injury-hit Imps have won that race.

Lincoln have been without forwards Ben House, Tyler Walker and Reeco Hackett for much of the season.

The Peterborough-born Taylor plays for Wales at an international level, having scored once in three under-21s appearances.

The sought-after striker scored four times in his last seven games for Colchester, before the Hatters called an end to his loan-spell in Essex.

Taylor joined Luton Town last January, leaving his hometown club Peterborough United. At the Posh he played 19 times, netting just once.

He even played six games for Luton across their promotion-winning season in the Championship last term.

Mid-table Lincoln are in desperate need of a striker due to an ongoing injury crisis, helped somewhat by the recall of Freddie Draper from his loan at Walsall.

Lincoln travel to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, January 13, before the tough visits of Derby County and Peterborough United round-out January.

Writer’s View:

This looks to be a solid loan signing for Lincoln City – and one they definitely needed.

Joe Taylor’s four goals in his seven games means he is set to come to Lincolnshire on the crest of a wave. Interestingly, those four goals is just one off being more than any Lincoln player has managed all season.

The Imps’ injury troubles has meant a January signing in the attacking department became critical and short-term loan for someone the calibre of Taylor is the best solution.
