Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala looks ahead to his side’s test against Stevenage, while reviewing a period of good form.
The Imps are unbeaten in their last nine games, a run matched by only one team in the EFL – Skubala’s former club, Leeds United.
“Really pleased” with form:
Speaking to Jamie Johnson, the City head coach said: “I’m really pleased with what they’ve done, but it’s the next game now. What I always do is try and make sure we book end every game and just go onto the next game. We just take every game as it comes.”
Lincoln bounced back from a bad run over the Christmas period to now be unbeaten in their last nine games. It’s a run that has seen the Imps pick up six clean sheets and win five of their last six.
“It’s really pleasing, and it just shows you the mentality that the group has got. I think what’s really impressed me is how hard we have been to score against. If you’ve got those clean sheets and you’re hard to beat, then I think we’ve got the quality to go and score goals,” he added.
Attention turns to Stevenage:
The visit of Stevenage is potentially a key game in Lincoln City’s entire season. The Imps are eight points behind Steve Evans’ side, with a win potentially propelling them into eighth in the SkyBet League One standings.
Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire, Skubala downplayed the prospect of a crunch game in the race for the playoffs. He said: “Every game is important. Every game over the last few weeks, that we have been doing well in, has been an important game.”
A win over the league’s sixth-place team would bring Lincoln closer to the hallowed playoffs and extend the team’s unbeaten run into double-digits.
Imps injury woes:
However, not everything is positive for Skubala and his team. The head coach revealed that midfielder Ethan Hamilton will miss the rest of the season due to injury.
He added that Conor McGrandles may also be absent this weekend, with a “slight niggle” that is to be examined.
Elsewhere, defenders Adam Jackson and Jack Burroughs have been sidelined over recent weeks. The Lincoln head coach provided an update on them both.
He said: “Adam Jackson is still training in a mask. We still waiting for his nose to recover. Hopefully that isn’t too long, maybe another week, maybe another two weeks.”
And added: “Jack Burroughs is back on the grass with the medical team, so still a couple of weeks off. But, they are definitely making progress, just maybe not as quickly as we’d like from a head coach’s point of view.”
Injuries have plagued City’s entire season, from missing Ben House and Reeco Hackett for a long stretch, to still being without striker Tyler Walker and centre-back Lewis Montsma.
The curse doesn’t seem to be lifting any time soon for Skubala’s men, even if they have battled through to put themselves in playoff contention.
