Liverpool Agree Deal for Crystal Palace Star Defender

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal with Crystal Palace to bring defender Marc Guehi to Anfield after a long transfer saga. The reigning Premier League champions have been trying to strike a deal for many weeks, but they look set to finally get their man.

After years of conservative spending bringing success to Merseyside, Liverpool fans will have enjoyed a summer of big spending this year.

With massive deals for Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Jeremie Frimpong already being completed this summer, and with a deal for Newcastle star Alexander Isak reportedly being close for over £100 million, the Reds have improved their squad significantly.

They have been eyeing further defensive reinforcements after the signing of Milos Kerkez, however, and they seem to have found their man in South London, as a deal has finally been agreed.

Guehi to Liverpool?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, as a prolonged transfer saga looks set to reach its conclusion.

Guehi will join the Reds for a reported fee of around £35 million, with a 10% sell-on clause also being in his contract at Anfield.

The Englishman has been keen on the move for a while now, and it looks set to finally go through before tonight’s transfer deadline.

A Massive Coup for Liverpool?

Guehi has been a fantastic asset for Crystal Palace ever since his move from Chelsea, and he will certainly be a big signing for Arne Slot’s side as they look to retain their Premier League title.

He will likely become their new starting centre back alongside Virgil Van Dijk after Ibrahima Konate has struggled in the early parts of their 2025/26 campaign.

This defensive reinforcement could be the key signing that Liverpool need to ensure that they will remain the favourites to retain their Premier League title this season.

A Good Deal for Both Teams?

Palace will receive a substantial fee for Guehi, which will help any late attempts to replace the Englishman in the latter stages of the transfer window; however, they will feel like they could have potentially commanded a higher fee from the Reds.

Oliver Glasner’s side will now have to adapt to life without their star defensive asset as they look to impress in both the Premier League and UEFA Conference League this campaign, but it will certainly be more difficult without Guehi.

Liverpool, however, will be happy that they have managed to bring in a star defender for what looks like a fantastic deal from the South London side.
