Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has long been heralded as a potential number one, and if reports are to be believed, the Irish international has made the move to do so.
The 26-year-old played his part in the Reds’ title triumph this season, keeping four clean sheets in ten Premier League appearances.
Cork-born Kelleher has played 67 times for the Red half of Merseyside and has been an able deputy for Alisson in recent seasons.
Impressive Goalkeeper To Move to Germany
It was an excellent campaign for Brentford, who secured a top ten finish and earned plaudits for their ability to match up to some of the bigger sides in the Premier League.
A major reason for their success was the form of goalkeeper Mark Flekken, who ranked in the top two for saves per match across 37 appearances.
The only other keeper who could compete in that metric was Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale, whose goal was peppered with shots in what turned out to be a horrific campaign for the Saints.
Those displays have reportedly seen German giants Bayer Leverkusen swoop in and snap up the Netherlands international.
This deal has now paved the way for Kelleher to sign for the Bees and finally become a number one for a top Premier League side.
Liverpool to Receive £18 Million for Kelleher
According to the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano on X, Arne Slot’s side have agreed to sell Kelleher to Brentford for a deal in the region of £18 million including add-ons.
The funds will be a welcome boost in their pursuit of other major signings, having already announced the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong to replace the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Romano is also the source confirming the deal will go through for Flekken to join the 2023/24 Bundesliga champions.
The Dutch keeper was arguably one of the most improved players in the Premier League this season. He has turned out to be one of the best signings Brentford have made since their return to the top-flight.
His departure will be a blow to Thomas Frank’s side, but they have moved quickly to tie up a deal for the Irish star, who has done nothing but impress when filling in for Alisson at Liverpool, even in high-profile situations.
Kelleher kept three clean sheets in a month in fixtures against RB Leipzig, Leverkusen and Real Madrid this season and should prove to be an adequate replacement for Flekken.
It appears that all parties have had a win if and when these deals go through.
