Liverpool Legend Emerges as Contender For Bolton Wanderers Managerial Role

Bolton Wanderers

Former Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler has emerged as a potential candidate for the managerial position at League One side Bolton Wanderers.

Fowler, 49, is among several contenders for the role with Steven Schumacher, Steve Evans and former Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce also linked to the job.

The appointment would come in the wake of Ian Evatt’s sacking on Tuesday after a home defeat to Charlton Athletic.

Robbie Fowler’s Stop-Start Managerial Career

Fowler certainly has the managerial experience to succeed at Bolton Wanderers, having stints in Australia, India, and Saudi Arabia.

The club will need to decide between Fowler or the likes of Allardyce and Evans, who have a wealth of experience managing at EFL level.

Australian side Brisbane Roar were Fowler’s first club before he was sacked after one season. His most successful reign as manager was at Al Qadasiya where he was dismissed despite remaining unbeaten in eight league games over three months.

The former England international played 26 times for The Three Lions and is now a club representative at Liverpool.

Success Required For New Bolton Wanderers Manager

Bolton Wanderers have endured a difficult start to the League One season and sit in eighth place but are just a single point outside the play-off positions, representing an opportunity for the new manager to come in and salvage the campaign.

The new manager will want to address the lack of consistency seen in league results this season. The club have not won more than two games in a row in this campaign and have a leaky defence, having conceded more goals than any side in the top 17 of the third tier.

However, there can be no doubt about the quality of this Bolton Wanderers squad, which fell to a defeat in the League One playoff final last in 2023/24.

With clubs keen to give young coaches a chance, Fowler will be hoping the Trotters provide him with his first job in English football. It certainly looks to be an attractive role but expectations will be high.
