Liverpool Sign European Golden Boy Nominee

Liverpool have not wasted any time in recruiting a new goalkeeper to add to their squad following the £18m departure of back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

The Irishman had played his role perfectly during his time at Liverpool, notably winning his side both domestic trophies in the 21/22 season in penalty shootouts against Chelsea.

This rewarded him with a deserved move to Brentford, where he will likely be their number one next season.

This move does not leave Liverpool short of goalkeepers, as they already signed Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia last summer who will join up with the Liverpool squad in the coming weeks.

The club have not stopped there however, as according to reports from Fabrizio Romano, another goalkeeper has signed their contract to become a Liverpool player.

Ármin Pécsi has agreed a deal to join the Reds for a fee of £1.5m from Hungarian side Puskás Akadémia, who finished 2nd in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I last season.

Pécsi’s career so far:

Born in 2005, Hungarian goalkeeper Pécsi has not long started his career as a professional goalkeeper, but it is fair to say that he impressed in his appearances last season.

Pécsi made his breakthrough as his side’s number one goalkeeper at the beginning of the 24/25 season, making 36 appearances in all competitions for his side, achieving 11 clean sheets in the process.

He has also earned himself a total of twenty caps in multiple youth age levels for his country.

In recognition of his performances throughout the season, Pécsi has been rewarded with a European Golden Boy nomination – further proof that Liverpool have one for the future.

What will Pécsi’s role be?

Pécsi is set to be Liverpool’s number three goalkeeper when he joins the squad for pre-season, meaning he will likely spend large portions of the season as goalkeeper for Liverpool’s under-21s.

The Hungarian will get his opportunity to impress manager Arne Slot in pre-season, a time where academy players usually get a chance to stake their claim for first team football.

Domestic competitions may also be a scenario in which Pécsi is utilised, but depending on the teams faced and the stage of the competition, he will potentially play back-up to Mamardashvilli.

Liverpool may go a completely different route with the goalkeeper by opting to loan him out to a team in a lower division so he can get more first-team experience of English football.

Liverpool’s strong goalkeeper union:

As Kelleher departs whilst Mamardashvilli and Pécsi arrive, Liverpool’s choice of goalkeepers looks arguably one of the best in world football.

Alisson has been one of the best keepers in the Premier League for many seasons now, whilst Marmadashvilli has impressed whilst playing in LaLiga and for his national team.

It is also not to be forgotten that alongside the two new signings, Liverpool also have the very talented Kornel Misciur in their academy, who they signed from Hull City less than two years ago.

The goalkeeper position at Liverpool is in extremely safe hands for a very long time, as Pécsi has been labelled as one for the future.
