Liverpool vs Everton preview in the first Merseyside derby of the season. Liverpool have had a busy return from the international break. In gameweek four, they struggled to find the net against Burnley until a Jeremie Frimpong cross struck the arm of Hannibal Mejbri, and Mohamed Salah picked up his second goal of the season from the penalty spot.
They returned to Anfield for their opening game of the Champions League group phase against Atletico Madrid. The Premier League Champions scored twice in the opening six minutes. The first came through a heavy deflection on a Mo Salah free kick, while the second was simply wonderful dribbling and strength from Salah to score an individually great goal. Atleti brought one back just before halftime, and with 10 minutes remaining, a second Marcos Llorente goal found the back of the net with the shot being deflected away from Alisson off the heel of Alexis Mac Allister.
Everton returned to action after the international break with a home game against Aston Villa, who were yet to score a goal in the Premier League at that point. That run continued with a 0-0 draw, bringing Everton into the top six after four games with seven points.
It was Everton who applied all the pressure throughout the match, with Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Iliman Ndiaye continuing their creative qualities. Michael Keane ended up with four shots in the game, making Emi Martínez produce one incredible save.
