Birmingham City are set to add Liverpool winger Lewis Koumas to their ranks, despite interest from Wrexham and their other Championship rivals.

According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old winger will join the Blues on a season-long loan, with a full agreement reached and a medical set.

The talented forward has been subject to a lot of Championship interest this window, after an impressive breakthrough season with Stoke City last season.

Lewis Koumas Chooses Birmingham City

Reports earlier this week stated that Koumas was a subject of interest for the newly promoted duo, Wrexham and Birmingham.

Meanwhile, fellow Championship sides Norwich City, Hull City, and Sheffield United were also said to be interested in taking the Liverpool man on loan.

However, he appears to have chosen a move to St. Andrews.

Despite the West Midlands side only recently being promoted to the Championship, St. Andrews could be one of the best destinations for the forward to further his career.

Having made several notable additions in the transfer market, with the likes of Tommy Doyle, Demarai Gray, and Bright Osayi-Samuel joining Chris Davies’ squad, City are well amongst the promotion favourites this season.

Tallying 111 points last season and unbeaten in their first two league outings this season, the project under Tom Brady is certainly exciting.

Koumas is versatile, which will work well in Davies’ 4-2-3-1 system, and he will likely be in contention to feature through the middle or compete for the left-wing position with Keshi Anderson.

While Birmingham’s striking duo of Kyogo Furuhashi and Jay Stansfield is virtually untouchable, the youngster’s arrival provides a new depth of tactical versatility.

Lewis Koumas’ Breakthrough

Koumas broke into the Merseyside giant’s first team in January 2024 amid an injury crisis for the Reds, scoring on his senior debut against Southampton in the FA Cup.

Additionally, he has earned six caps for the Welsh national team, boasting 50 professional appearances following an impressive loan spell with the Potters last year.

Tallying six goals and three assists as the Potters clinched Championship survival last season, the international forward benefited greatly from regular gametime.

However, the youngster’s minutes have been limited under Arne Slot, finding minutes limited in pre-season after 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha’s recent emergence.

Notably absent from the U21s’ outing against Leicester City on Monday, another loan spell is likely the case for his development.

He boasts an excellent deal of potential, and the progressive environment at Birmingham City could allow Koumas to further flourish in the Championship.
