Millenic Alli could leave Luton Town this January after Jack Wilshere admitted the forward needs more game time.
The 25-year-old has been out of favour at Kenilworth Road since the former Arsenal midfielder took charge earlier this season, and is currently facing a stretch out of the squad, with an omission against Stevenage marking his fifth straight absence.
Wilshere Makes Loan Admission
With Millenic Alli out of his plans right now, questions have arose about his future for the Hatters, no doubt emphasised by their loan signing of Manchester City starlet Emilio Lawrence earlier this week.
The 20-year-old immediately found himself in the starting lineup in the home game against Stevenage, playing over an hour in a promising showing for his first-ever senior match.
Now having another player in front of him in the pecking order, Wilshere admitted to Luton Today that a loan exit is a strong possibility for Town’s number seven.
“I think Milli has to play football, Milli definitely has to play football.
“He’s not a young player who can dip in dip out, he’s at an age where he probably feels like this is his time, this is his moment, and I think we have to be open to something like that.
“Listen, I’m happy if he stays and there’s competition for places as I’m sure that there will be a time where he gets his confidence back, finds his rhythm again and he will be able to help us in a certain way, but I also understand that he needs to play so we could be open to that, yes.”
Former Club Return Could Work Wonders
With an exit from Luton Town likely, attention will now turn to where Millenic Alli could end up by the end of the January transfer window.
While no takers have emerged as of yet, a very logical option could be a return to Exeter City, where he was signed from twelve months ago by new manager Matt Bloomfield, who was a firm favourite of the Irishman.
The Grecians certainly need some new attacking prowess and sit as the lowest-scoring team in League One outside of the bottom five with 25 goals.
Adding Alli back into the mix, having scored 16 times in the year-long spell between his move from FC Halifax Town and sale to Luton, would be a great way to end the overreliance on Jayden Wareham and provide a new threat in wider areas for opponents to deal with.
While certainly they will not be alone in pursuing a deal for a proven League One player, a return to St. James’ Park could be a match made in heaven for both Alli and Exeter.
