Luton Town Forward Close to League Two Switch

Luton Town

Matt Bloomfield and Luton Town have been active in reshaping their squad in the summer transfer window as they look to seal an instant return to the Championship, and reports are now circulating that a forward is close to a departure.

There has been a lot of change at Kenilworth Road, with a highly rated prospect reportedly set to leave and move on to the fourth tier in a bid for first-team experience. The Hatters have seen a raft of first-team departures as part of a squad overhaul ahead of a first campaign in League One since the club were crowned champions in 2018/19.

Promising Luton Town Forward Close to League Two Move

Taylan Harris moved to Luton Town in 2024 after making his senior debut for Reading in a 9-0 win over Exeter City in the EFL Trophy. The forward scored a goal and provided an assist to highlight his potential, but he has not kicked on and made a senior appearance at Kenilworth Road.

Dan Marsh of the Mirror is now reporting that Tranmere Rovers are close to signing the player on a loan deal ahead of the 2025/26 League Two campaign. The Rovers finished in 20th place in the fourth tier last season and struggled in front of goal, scoring just 45 times in their 46 outings.

Manager Andy Crosby is yet to bring in an out-and-out forward this summer. However, that may change with a deal advancing for Harris to move to Prenton Park.

Tranmere Rovers’ Attacking Struggles

Tranmere Rovers have been on a downward trajectory in League Two over the past five campaigns. The club went from a top seven finish to 9th, 12th, 16th and then 20th since returning to the fourth tier ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Their struggles in front of goal and in creating opportunities was a deciding factor in their poor campaign in League Two, with only Gillingham creating fewer big chances than Rovers in 2024/25.

A natural goalscorer is required, as Rovers ranked in the top half for shots and efforts on target per game, but those statistics did not translate into a consistent output in front of goal. The team scored 18 times in ten matches under current manager Crosby, but significant forward additions will be required if they are to improve on last season’s numbers.

It remains to be seen if Luton Town forward Taylan Harris will be the answer, as the prospect has a lack of first-team football under his belt.

Tranmere Rovers begin their League Two campaign against Colchester United on the second of August and follow that with a home fixture against Shrewsbury Town.
