Luton Town have undergone a major squad turnover over the last two years, following the Bedfordshire club’s consecutive relegations from the Premier League to League One.

Now, chasing the top-six spots in England’s third tier, they are set to part ways with one of their assets to the Championship, with advanced talks for a loan deal underway.

Millenic Alli joined the club for a seven-figure fee last season and immediately made a positive impact at Kenilworth Road despite the club’s relegation from the Championship. However, the Irish forward is set to return to England’s second tier.

Luton Town Set To Lose Millenic Alli

Alli joined the Hatters from Exeter City last January, after asserting himself as one of the most impressive forward players in the division. Stepping up a division, he was one of the Hatter’s few positives in the latter half of the 2024-25 season, returning four goals in 16 appearances.

Capable of operating behind a striker and out wide, high hopes were placed on Alli going into this season.

A regular feature under Matt Bloomfield, since the club parted ways with the former Wycombe Wanderers coach, he has since lost his place in the starting line-up.

Unfortunately, since the club has welcomed Jack Wilshere to the dugout, the Irishman has been limited to just four league appearances.

The head coach had recently admitted in an interview that a loan deal is a strong likelihood for the former Halifax Town man, and now Championship strugglers Portsmouth appear to be in line to secure his services.

Portsmouth In Line For Millenic Alli Deal

Omitted from Luton Town’s last five matchday squads, reports from Football League World state that the South Coast club are in advanced talks with the Hatters.

Pompey currently sit just one point above the Championship relegation zone, and are the second lowest in the division for goals scored.

The versatile forward could introduce a new depth of goal-scoring prowess and creativity after proving capable in the division for his current club last season.

Additionally, head coach John Mousinho is currently managing an injury crisis in the forward areas, with Callum Lang and Josh Murphy currently out of action. Additionally, Tottenham Hotspur have recently recalled winger Yang Min-hyeok to enable his move to Coventry City.

Set for a crucial bottom-of-the-league tie away at Sheffield Wednesday, it is possible that Alli could be straight into the line-up should a deal be secured in time.
