Amid Chiedozie Ogbene’s exit from Luton Town, the Hatters have joined the various Championship clubs who are chasing Norwich City forward, Abu Kamara, who shone on loan at Portsmouth last season.
Kamara has already indicated his desire to leave Carrow Road this summer by handing in a transfer request.
Hull City and Oxford United are two Championship sides interested
The PinkUn revealed on the 20th of August that former Portsmouth loanee and League One champion, Abu Kamara, had handed in a transfer request to Norwich City with plenty of sides linked such as Hull City, Southampton, Celtic, Anderlecht, Oxford United and most recently, Luton Town.
Kamara has a single year left on his deal, although another year can be triggered by the Canaries, with PinkUn’s report suggesting that Norwich are reluctant to sell the 21-year-old who has been handed just fifteen minutes of Championship action so far this season, despite a goal and assist against Stevenage in the Carabao Cup.
Portsmouth achieved promotion to the Championship last season, ending the club’s twelve-year absence from the division. Abu Kamara was key to Portsmouth’s triumph, netting eight goals and contributing ten assists in the league.
Pompey manager, John Mousinho, did admit to Portsmouth News earlier in the summer that he’d be keen to bring Kamara back to Fratton Park, stating: “You never know, we’ll certainly be there if anything develops from Norwich’s standpoint.
“From our point of view if Abu becomes available, we’ll be there. So we’ll keep in contact and go from there”.
Luton Town have joined the race for Kamara
Rob Edwards’ Luton Town have joined the collection of interested clubs interested in Abu Kamara this summer with Football Insider revealing that the Hatters are now actively working on a deal to sign the England U20 international.
BBC Sport reported on the 27th of August that Hull City have, alongside Luton Town, submitted a bid in the region of £2.5 million for the former Portsmouth loanee, as the two sides try to lure the Canaries into selling their exciting academy star.
Luton Town have recently announced the departure of Chiedozie Ogbene to Ipswich Town, a deal believed to be worth around £8 million with the potential signing of Kamara in an attempt to compensate for the exit of the Irish international.
Hull City, like Luton, have also lost firepower this summer, having sold Jaden Philogene-Bidace back to his boyhood side, Aston Villa, after reportedly triggering a buy-back clause in the forward’s deal, valued at around £20 million.
Norwich have dealt with plenty of transfer sagas this summer
Norwich City appointed Danish manager, Johannes Hoff Thorup, this summer after parting ways with David Wagner following a spectacular 4-0 loss to Leeds United in the second leg of the play-off final.
It’s hardly been plain sailing for Thorup since arriving at Carrow Road with a large portion of the Norwich City squad eyeing moves elsewhere.
A headline saga was the actions of Norwich’s star man and academy product, Jonathan Rowe, who omitted himself from selection amid links to Leeds United and Marseille, the winger was subsequently banished to Norwich’s reserves in a shock turn of events.
Rowe wasn’t alone in forcing a move from Norwich City, Adam Idah also did so by not turning up to pre-season in an attempt to push through a move to Celtic after thriving with the Scottish side on loan the season prior.
Idah along with Rowe have since joined new clubs, although Kamara’s transfer request remains an unresolved issue.
