Luton Town Man Makes Contract Plea Following Wembley Success

Luton Town’s top scorer Jordan Clark has admitted he would like to stay at Luton Town beyond the end of this season.

The attacking midfielder is out of contract in the summer, and with a successful individual season, now faces the agonising wait of whether the Hatters will strike a deal with him going forward.

Clark Makes Case

With Town finally tasting success in the EFL Trophy final after a tough three seasons for the club, thoughts are already turning to the summer with their playoff chances hanging by a thread.

By no means out of the chase ahead of a clash with bottom side Northampton Town, Luton sit six points behind sixth-placed Stevenage with five games of their season remaining.

Speaking to Luton Today about his time with the club and whether he would be open to a seventh campaign at Kenilworth Road, the former Accrington Stanley man said:

“I’ve never wanted to leave and to be truthful I could have maybe gone in the summer, but I felt that little bit of debt to the club, especially after the back-to-back relegations which was tough.

“Listen, it was more tough for the fans of course who have been here a lot longer before me and will be a lot longer after me, but that West Brom game was a really dark day.

“It was tough, I’ll never forget that, but I’ve had the highest of the highs here and the lowest of the lows, and nothing more than I’d love is to help get this club back to the Championship.

“If that would be it for me it would be such a great way to go out, but we’ll see what happens. Full focus on the games and then I’ll sit down with the club and hopefully we can get something sorted.”

Wilshere Building Positivity

Despite times when it looked like his time in charge of Luton Town could come crumbling down after confrontations with fans, Jack Wilshere certainly has built some optimism within his current playing squad for next season.

Jordan Clark has been rightly lauded over during his time at Luton, having been named the best free transfer ever made by former manager Nathan Jones, and this season has seen him step up at times when others haven’t, keeping Town in the playoff conversation.

Now, with his contract up, the 32-year-old faces a crucial couple of weeks ahead, trying to strike a deal with Wilshere to continue their partnership as the Hatters attempt a Championship return.

The former Arsenal midfielder has seemingly built something which the players have bought into, with Kasey Palmer and Emilio Lawrence both open to switches back to Kenilworth Road next season after their loan spells.

Promotion will be up for grabs next season with Sheffield Wednesday already out of contention with a hefty points deduction, while they are likely to be joined by Leicester City who will face a mass exodus and potential penalties for their own financial issues.

If Luton can capitalise on that, recruit a high-calibre striker and overcome a few of their rivals next season, then Wilshere and his outfit should be highly tipped for a title challenge.
