Despite playing a key role in Luton Town’s promotion to the Premier League, Allan Campbell was sent out on loan to Millwall last season.

The midfielder could exit Luton this summer amid links to Hibernian and Aberdeen.

Campbell was a key squad player for Luton

Allan Campbell joined The Hatters on an undisclosed fee from Scottish side, Motherwell, back in 2021, with Campbell’s exit ending a 13-year stay with The Steelmen after the Scot progressed through the club’s youth system, making 160 appearances before his departure.

Campbell was a key part in Luton Town’s back-to-back play-off finishes, remaining a key squad member under both Nathan Jones and Rob Edwards, with the latter securing play-off glory in 2023.

Edwards left Campbell as an unused substitute in the final at Wembley, but the Scottish midfielder still played a part in securing promotion, featuring in forty-three Championship games, contributing three key goals which helped Luton to a third-place finish.

However, promotion to the Premier League outlined Luton’s need to strengthen as they added Tahith Chong and Ross Barkley to their ranks, subsequently leading Campbell to fall out of favour with manager, Rob Edwards, who admitted last summer:

“We absolutely love him [Campbell]. He deserves to play football as well because he’s the best professional.

“It’s probably a little bit difficult for him to get that game time, so it’s something that we’re looking at, at the moment with him”.

Campbell had a difficult loan with Millwall

Millwall were the club to hand Campbell the opportunity to play, as Rob Edwards alluded to, with the Lions signing Campbell on a one-year loan deal.

Director of Football at Millwall, Alex Aldridge, stated upon Campbell’s signing…

“We’re delighted to have Allan join us. He brings with him the experience of Championship promotion with Luton”.

The Lions had just lost George Evans and hoped Campbell would offer some Championship-proven quality to their side, although injuries put a stop to that plan.

Campbell suffered a variety of injuries whilst playing at The Den with an ankle and back injury, in particular, leaving the 26-year-old on the sidelines for lengthy periods, meaning the Scotsman only recorded 12 appearances in a Millwall shirt.

SPFL sides chase Campbell

Following a troubled loan at Millwall, Luton are believed to be open their 26-year-old midfielder, according to Pete O’Rourke at Football Insider.

Two sides in particular who have been revealed to be weighing up an offer for Campbell are Hibernian and Aberdeen.

The two clubs could attempt to lure Campbell back to his homeland of Scotland, where he would face his former club, Motherwell.

Football Insider reports that Allan Campbell is keen to remain in the Championship however, with there being potential for a move to his desired league, according to Pete O’Rourke’s update in his latest tweet that details both clubs from Scotland and England are keen on signing the midfielder.
