Luton Town are set to secure a big transfer coup this January as they close in on a deal for Kasey Palmer.
The Hatters have begun to halt their slide, which has seen back-to-back relegations, and under new boss Jack Wilshere are firmly in the promotion conversation, being level on points with sixth-placed Huddersfield Town with a game in hand.
Palmer Deal Looms
According to Alan Nixon via his Patreon page, Town are closing in on a deal with Hull City for Kasey Palmer, with the experienced attacking midfielder struggling for gametime on Humberside.
The Hatters are believed to want a loan deal with the hopes of signing the former Coventry City man permanently in the summer window.
Space has been made at Kenilworth Road this January, with the loan exit of Millenic Alli to reunite with former manager Matt Bloomfield at Oxford United, with the former Exeter City man knocked further down the pecking order after the signing of Manchester City’s Emilio Lawrence on loan.
Palmer finds himself in a similar situation to Alli at Hull, with the Tigers agreeing a deal for Yu Hirakawa from Bristol City after he was deployed at wing-back for Gerhard Struber’s men for much of the season.
With Joe Gelhardt on for a return to full fitness ahead of City’s match against Preston North End, Palmer is unlikely to make a further appearance after featuring in each of the last five of Segej Jakirovic’s matchday squads.
Experience Vital For Town
Jack Wilshere has a very solid squad at his disposal, and in his first transfer window in charge of Luton Town, it seems he is striking a balance between youth and experience to aid their promotion efforts.
Emilio Lawrence was the first piece of that puzzle, providing some impressive moments in his first three appearances in Bedfordshire, and now that is likely to be added to by Kasey Palmer, who is likely on his way out of Hull City.
With 18 months still left on his contract in East Yorkshire, Palmer has been usurped by Joe Gelhardt and Amir Hadziahmetovic in the number 10 role by Sergej Jakirovic and with the former Leeds United prospect returning from injury, opportunities going forward are limited for the 29-year-old.
A move to Luton will be a great addition for the Hatters and with the Jamaican still in the prime of his career, there is still a lot for him to offer going forward.
While he is bound to face fierce competition from Jordan Clark and Gideon Kodua for a starting place, Palmer’s versatility will make him a great tool as Jack Wilshere tries to mount a promotion challenge.
