Luton Town Set to Welcome Permanent Signing to Club

League One side Luton Town are set for an early January transfer window boost as they welcome summer signing Ethon Archer to the club. The winger joined in the summer from Cheltenham Town but returned to the League Two side on loan for the first half of the season.

The 23-year-old has made 26 appearances for the Robins, scoring three goals whilst also chipping in with two assists. His contribution has been praised by manager Steve Cotterill adding that he will keep an eye on the player’s career.

“I keep an eye on lots of players who I’ve had throughout my career so Ethon will be another one of those players.

“I’ve said to him any time he needs to call me I’ll be on the end of the phone and if I don’t answer it’’s probably because I’m on it, so in January it might be tough for him, but any other time I would be there for him. He’s been a great kid. I know there’s been, ‘is he up for anymore?’ But I thought the kid played today as committed as he probably could play out there and deservedly did get that round of applause at the end. I’m really pleased for him as I know a little about his upbringing, his background as we’ve had conversations and I love it when kids like him get the opportunities.

“I wish him all the best and I hope it goes really, really well for him, I will miss him being around for sure. We’ve put on a good performance and he deserves it. He’s a young boy that’s come through non-league, come up the hard way, fights like hell for his family. I wanted him to be the best player on the pitch today. It was good he got a good ovation from our supporters, who were brilliant. Not just through the game, but at the end of the game and the lads really appreciated the support they got.” – GloucestershireLive

Luton Town Welcome Cheltenham Town Winger

Ethon Archer is set to link up with Luton next week for training, according to the BBC. This will allow new boss Jack Wilshere to take a look at the player and decide if he is ready to take the step up to League One football, or if another loan spell will be on the cards.

The forward has performed to a high standard in League Two, despite the Robins’ poor form prior to Cotterill’s arrival. His 11 goals and eight assists in 79 appearances is also a good return for a wide player. However, it is his ability with the ball that has earned him plaudits, with him often drawing fouls to give his team attacking set-piece opportunities.

His finishing and passing does perhaps need some work if he is to step up to the third tier but surrounded by a higher quality of teammate this should start to improve.

Will Ethon Archer Stay at Luton Town this Season?

Luton Town have not had an easy season so far. They have already been forced into a management change but do find themselves still within touching distance of the play-off spots. Archer may not be the answer to all of their problems, but he will give Jack Wilshere another option as he looks to push his side up the table. It is unlikely that he will head back out on loan again, at least for this season, and he could be seen as a “free hit”.

33% of Luton’s goals have come from set pieces so far this season, so if they can utilise Archer’s ability to draw fouls, they could have a really useful outlet as they are chasing games.
