Luton Town should be one of the main contenders for promotion this coming season and their activity in the transfer window shows no sign of slowing down as they have now been linked with a move for an attacker with an impressive goalscoring record.
Matt Bloomfield has seen several departures from Kenilworth Road this summer, including star striker Carlton Morris, who has joined Derby County.
They are seemingly in the market for a replacement, with reports linking them with a move for a player currently on the books at Ipswich Town.
Six New Arrivals at Luton Town This Summer
Bloomfield arrived at Luton Town off the back of an impressive spell with Wycombe Wanderers but was unable to steer the Hatters clear of relegation in the Championship last season.
This has led to a squad overhaul in this transfer window, and there have been five new faces brought in permanently as the manager aims to build a squad capable of achieving an instant return to the second tier.
Nigel Lonwijk has joined the promotion chase on loan from Premier League side Wolves. The defender has stood out at this level previously and appears to be a major coup for the team. If he can stay fit and on-form, the player is one of the best defenders in League One.
George Saville, Hakeem Odoffin, Kal Naismith, and Jake Richards have all been brought in on permanent deals. The quarter brings a mix of youth and experience and should provide a relatively strong spine of the team ahead of the League One campaign.
However, the only addition to the forward line is 35-year-old Nakhi Wells. The former Bradford City man has been prolific at Championship level, but his best years may be behind them, leaving room for more additions to the front line.
Former AFC Wimbledon Star Targeted
Ali Al-Hamadi is a 23-year-old Iraqi international who played 11 times in the Premier League for Ipswich Town last season, with all appearances coming from the substitutes’ bench. He would join Stoke City on loan for the second half of the campaign, scoring twice in one-goal victories in his 15 outings.
The forward is best known for his prolific spell with AFC Wimbledon, where he scored 27 times and provided eight assists in just 48 outings. The forward stood out in the 2024/24 campaign, topping the club’s charts for shots and successful dribbles per game.
Only Jake Reeves could better his tally of 1.4 key passes per game at the club in that campaign, and TWTD are now reporting that the Hatters are interested in bringing the forward to Kenilworth Road.
The report states the player would prefer a move to the Championship. However, the expectation is that Luton Town will be challenging for an instant return from League One, and this may persuade the forward to join Bloomfield’s squad.
Ipswich Town are reportedly on the lookout for a replacement for Liam Delap before sanctioning a departure, so any deal for Ali Al-Hamadi may be on hold for now.
