Championship side Luton Town are closing in on securing League One promotion chasing manager Matt Bloomfield from Wycombe Wanderers.
The surprise title contenders have been battling the likes of Birmingham City, Wrexham and Huddersfield Town for the title for much of the season, leading the race for a period of time. This impressive run has prompted interest from Championship clubs keen to share their young manager Bloomfield.
Luton Town is not the first club to be interested this season, with links to Stoke City and more notably Coventry City. The latter of which reportedly approached the club but were swiftly declined.
Now according to Football League World the League One title race could be set for a serious twist with Bloomfield set to take over at Luton Town.
The Worst Possible News for Wycombe Wanderers Fans
It is inevitable when a club is doing well, especially as a surprise outfit to attract interest from clubs above. It is similar to what League Two Walsall are experiencing. However, whilst Saddlers fans had their dream fulfilled by tying down Matt Sadler to an extended contract, Chairboys fans will be left hoping whoever comes in can pick up where Bloomfield left off.
The club have lost some ground in the title race to Birmingham City, which is inevitable following their large talented squad and spending power. But still find themselves well and truly in the race entering the second half of the season.
Big Shoes to Fill at Luton Town
Luton Town on the other hand are attempting to bounce back. They suffered relegation from the Premier League last season and said goodbye to long serving manager Rob Edwards, who had guided the club to the top flight.
Luton have failed to mount any promotion push and are closer in proximity to Wycombe in League One than the promotion race which will be disappointing following their recent success.
Bloomfield will need to hit the ground running, but having taken over from Wycombe Wanderers legend Gareth Ainsworth, taking over from a well liked manager is nothing new for the incoming boss.
