Maidenhead United have completed the permanent signing of Barnet loanee Sam Barratt, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.
The 28-year-old has returned to Maidenhead United for the third time in his professional career, after bringing an end to his frustrating spell at Dean Brennan’s Barnet side.
Barratt joined Barnet on a free transfer in the summer after his second stint with Maidenhead expired but has now returned to the club for a third time. He has made 11 appearances so far this season, scoring twice in the National League.
The wide-midfielder began his career at York Road before moving onto Southend United in 2018. Within two years, Barratt returned to Maidenhead before leaving in June 2023 for Dean Brennan’s Barnet.
Maidenhead United currently sit 12th in the National League ahead of a trip to Woking who have since confirmed their new manager, following Darren Sarll’s departure in November. The club are on an impressive unbeaten league run which dates back to early November at the time of writing.
Meanwhile, Barnet continues to fight for a top-three finish in the National League this season. Dean Brennan’s men are currently five points ahead of Altrincham and face a tricky home fixture against Luke Garrard’s Boreham Wood this weekend.
The midfielder has returned to Maidenhead United on a free transfer, signing a contract until the end of the 2023/24 National League season but there has been no additional mention of any one-year options or bonuses.

Barratt made a bold switch to Barnet in the summer and given the club’s direction, nobody can blame the midfielder for wanting to play for a promotion contender this season.
However, his spell with the club hasn’t quite worked out and has now confirmed his return to a side that has allowed him to feel at home and I’m excited to see how he gets on during the second half of the campaign.
