Manchester City are getting ready to make their approach for Eintracht Frankfurt star, Omar Marmoush formal. Manchester City want to add the Egyptian attacker to their ranks this January and will now open talks with Frankfurt. The Citizens view the prolific striker as the ideal target to bring in this summer to augment their attack, which has been flailing so far this season.
Omar Marmoush has been on fire this season, scoring 13 goals in only 15 Bundesliga matches so far and 18 goals in 24 matches in all competitions. He is enjoying what is already his best season ever in terms of goals and has caught the eye of some big clubs.
One such club who are admirers of Marmoush is Manchester City. Per a post by Fabrizio Romano, the club is about to start official talks with Frankfurt to bring him to the Etihad Stadium mid-season.
Why Do Manchester City Need Marmoush
He would be brought in to shoulder part of the goalscoring burden, as City are struggling in that department currently. The Cityzens are currently the sixth most prolific team in England, a far cry from the usual, which is them at the very top.
It gets worse upon closer scrutiny, as out of their 36 goals, Erling Haaland has scored 16 with no other player scoring more than four. Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish and Savinho have combined for a total of five goals in the league.
Their goalscoring struggles have seen them currently languishing in 6th position, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool. Pep Guardiola appears ready to add Marmoush to bring much needed firepower, finally replacing Julian Alvarez. He would also ease the goalscoring burden on Erling Haaland.
The Egyptian could lead the line when Haaland is injured, they could also play together depending on the game plan of the coach.
Player Profile and Recent History
Marmoush is a quick, skilful and versatile forward, capable of playing on the wings and behind the striker, as well as leading the line. He is an effective playmaker, capable of delivering assists as well.
The 25-year-old had his breakout campaign last season, netting 17 goals in 41 matches. This season, he has gotten even better and currently is in an elite bracket of strikers.
He had previously been linked with Liverpool and was even touted as a replacement for his countryman, Mohamed Salah. However it seems City are the ones who will land him if all goes according to plan.
