One of Manchester City’s young talents looks set for a loan move to the Championship before the transfer window closes.
Pep Guardiola’s side were defeated by Brighton in the Premier League over the weekend. The 2-1 defeat came as a shock to many, given City were 1-0 up thanks to an Erling Haaland goal.
With the transfer window closing in a matter of hours, it looks like one of their talented youngsters could be leaving the club on loan.
Jaden Heskey has had his loan move to Sheffield Wednesday approved by the EFL and Man City.
Jaden Heskey Close to Sheffield Wednesday Loan
Pete O’Rourke has confirmed on his X that Heskey’s loan to Sheffield Wednesday has been approved.
The Star’s Joe Crann previously reported that Sheffield Wednesday had entered the battle to sign Heskey. The youngster has been on the Owls’ radar this summer, but the financial issues at the club prevented them from making a move.
Who Is Jaden Heskey?
At just 19, he is naturally an attacking midfielder but can play centre forward or central midfield. Heskey is a well-regarded name in the Man City youth setup. He has also trained with the first team on several occasions.
Last season in Premier League 2, Division 1, Heskey had seven goal contributions, three goals and four assists, in 19 games.
Why Did the EFL Need to Approve the Deal?
Sheffield Wednesday are currently in financial turmoil. A summer of late payments to playing staff, non-playing staff, and other clubs means they can’t sign or register new players. To do so, the EFL have requested that they prove they have the funds to pay any news wages.
It looked like the Owls wouldn’t be able to sign any players this window. However, on deadline day, Sheffield Wednesday and the EFL have reached an agreement.
Alex Miller of the Star shared an update on the agreement, which suggests that every signing will be taken on its own merits and reviewed by the EFL. Wages for any loanee will be paid by the parent club, and other factors (bonuses and non-football costs) will be considered by the EFL.
Although it’s still far from ideal for Sheffield Wednesday, the club appear to be able to sign some players on loan. This will allow the Owls to add further depth to their team.
