Manchester City have confirmed the departure of one of their first-team goalkeepers as Pep Guardiola’s squad overhaul continues this summer.
Kevin De Bryune is a confirmed departure, with many other senior players likely to follow the club legend out the door to make room for an influx of new signings.
City’s run of four consecutive Premier League titles came to a crashing halt following a poor campaign by their high standards.
Pep’s side ended the 2024/25 campaign with just the Community Shield to add to their list of honours.
Manchester City Confirm Departure of Goalkeeper
It has been a trophy-laden career for 39-year-old Scott Carson, who has been part of two Champions League-winning squads following his involvement in Liverpool’s historic 2005 comeback victory against AC Milan.
The former Derby County goalkeeper has been with Manchester City since 2021 and has played the role of third-choice keeper, making two appearances.
His character and experience have played a role in the City squad as they have gone on to win several major honours since the start of the 2021/22 season.
However, the club have now confirmed that the goalkeeper is set to depart with a statement on their official website stating that Carson was a ‘vital part of the goalkeeping unit’.
The Citizens are now reportedly on the lookout for an experienced goalkeeper to replace the departing Carson.
Chelsea Goalkeeper Targeted as Replacement For Carson
The Athletic are reporting that 33-year-old Marcus Bettinelli will be their third-choice keeper next season after the English goalkeeper played a similar role at Chelsea since his arrival in 2021.
Betinelli was once a talented first-choice at Fulham and played a key role in their promotion from the Championship play-offs in 2018.
He has been restricted to just one appearance for the Blues but has more than enough experience to fill the void left by Carson’s departure.
It is unlikely that many goalkeepers could dislodge either Ederson as number one or Stefan Ortega as second choice at Manchester City.
That leaves the third choice at the club needing to be experienced and reliable if called upon, and Bettinelli ticks those boxes.
