Manchester City have contacted AC Milan to express an interest in signing a midfield reinforcement this summer.
The Citizens hope an agreement will be reached to sign Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders, who has starred in the Serie A this season.
According to David Ornstein, City have expressed an interest in Reijnders and hope to reach an agreement to sign the Dutchman during the transfer window.
Manchester City pursue AC Milan midfielder
Tijjani Reijnders has spent two seasons in Milan, impressing after a £17 million move from AZ Alkmaar in 2023.
The Dutch midfielder has made 22 appearances for his country, playing six times at the 2024 Euros before the Netherlands’ semi-final defeat to England in Germany.
City are set for a big summer transfer window after a disappointing season in the Premier League. They are 18 points behind leaders Liverpool.
How has Reijnders fared at Milan?
Reijnders has recorded an impressive 20 goal contributions for AC Milan this season.
The 26-year-old scored in Milan’s 4-1 aggregate victory over fierce rivals Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-final.
The Dutchman can operate anywhere in the midfield but is known for his ability to arrive late in the box to provide a goalscoring threat.
Who would Reijnders be competing with at Man City?
Man City have had some world-class midfielders in their ranks over the last decade. However, Kevin De Bruyne is set to depart the club in the summer upon the expiration of his contract.
Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan have been incredible servants for the club, but they are both ageing, and Guardiola is keen to add to his midfield in the summer.
City have also been linked with both Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.
Reijnders would likely be competing for minutes with one of those players as well as Mateo Kovacic, Nico Gonzalez and Rodri, who is set to return from a lengthy injury soon.
