Manchester United and Newcastle United are reportedly in competition to secure the services of Brentford talisman Bryan Mbeumo.
The winger, who has been one of the Premier League’s standout players this season is attracting interest throughout the Premier League.
The Cameroon international has scored 18 goals and made seven assists in 39 games across all competitions this campaign.
Operating mainly off the right-flank he also has the ability to play through the middle making him an attractive prospect for any potential buyer.
According to reports from TeamTalk, Mbeumo is “intrigued” by Ruben Amorim’s attacking philosophy.
However, the report states that a move to Newcastle United remains the more likely destination for the forward.
Mbeumo arrived in Brentford from Troyes in 2019 and has scored 68 goals in 239 appearances for the club.
This season he has created a deadly partnership with Yoane Wissa and Mikkel Damsgaard. Across the three attackers, they have scored 46 of Brenford’s 62 Premier League goals, with Thomas Frank’s side boasting the sixth-best attack in England’s top flight.
Valued at £60 million euros, Brentford are expected to hold firm to their asking price with the forward under contract until 2026, with the option for a further year.
Manchester United target Bryan Mbeumo
Manchester United are once again in a period of transition as they begin another rebuild under a new coach.
It is expected that the squad will go through substantial turnover, with players such as Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho all expected to leave this summer.
This provides the opportunity for new attacking signings. Bryan Mbeumo would be an ideal candidate, he is a known quantity in the Premier League and has had a breakout season this campaign.
Playing on the right and cutting in on his left foot he has a profile similar to that of Amad Diallo who has seen a lot of success in Amorim’s system.
Mbeumo has a high rate of chance creation in the Premier League this season. Creating 1.89 chances per 90 while also taking 2.17 shots with 1.03 on target per game.
He would likely be deployed behind the striker under Ruben Amorim on the opposing side where Bruno Fernandes has played for the Portuguese manager.
This role provides vast opportunities for goal contributions with the Portuguese attacking midfielder contributing 22 goals and assists since Amorim’s arrival in November.
Bryan Mbeumo is not the only name in what is expected to be a new-look Manchester United attack with Wolves ace Mattheus Cunha also a key target for the club.
These moves would show evidence of serious intent to rebuild Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, after a disappointing campaign that will see the Old Trafford outfit finish in the bottom half.
Newcastle United pursue Bryan Mbeumo.
Eddie Howe’s team would appear to be the more natural fit for the winger. Setting out in a 4-3-3 formation Mbeumo would slot straight on to Eddie Howe’s right-hand flank.
He would be replacing Jacob Murphy who has had a stellar season for the Magpies on the right, playing 32 times scoring eight and assisting eleven.
Newcastle United are firmly in the race for Champions League football which will be an attractive prospect for Mbeumo, the North East club currently sit fourth in the Premier League.
If Manchester United are not successful in their bid for a Champions League place through the Europa League, it could cement the Cameroonian’s decision to move to St. James’ Park.
Following their EFL Cup win this season, Mbeumo may see potential in the Newcastle project which is only set to become more successful as they continue to be backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
