Manchester United Target Legend Goalkeeper’s Secret Return

Manchester United have been keen to add a new goalkeeper to their Premier League squad this summer. Links have been made to Emi Martinez and Gigi Donnarumma amongst others but as yet no signing has materialised.

Current number one Andre Onana looks to be staying with the club, with no side willing to pay the £30m demanded by Man Utd decision makers. There has also been no sign that Altay Bayindir would move on either.

That has meant that a dream move for Aston Villa’s Martinez had to be put on hold after a loan deal was turned down. Manchester City also look to be gaining PSG’s former number one after Ederson departs.

Unless Onana or Bayindir move on, it leaves little room in the budget for an addition which may make a returning club legend more appealing.

Manchester United Target David De Gea Return

Ruben Amorim’s men have been tipped off that former goalkeeper David De Gea has a clause in his current deal with Florentina that will allow him to leave for a low fee. This is according to Alan Nixon.

This would be appealing as it could allow them to bring in a new option between the sticks without outlay.

David De Gea could come in as the new number one, but would also be willing to play backup. MUFC welcomed the legend back to the club recently in a friendly game. He was given a big build up and described Old Trafford as “home”.

David De Gea Departure from Man Utd

David De Gea was signed under Sir Alex Ferguson, and despite a shaky start established himself as one of the best keepers in the world. He regularly picked up the golden glove in the Premier League and for a while saved the club from further embarrassment.

However, it became clear that managers were no longer favouring him, Ole started using Dean Henderson as his number one. Then Erik ten Hag made the ultimate decision that he needed a sweeper keeper, carting him out for Onana.

The current goalkeeping department clearly hasn’t worked, so a reverse back to De Gea could be a logical step. The player is still only 34 years old, which in goalkeeping terms is young. Edwin Van De Sar moved to Old Trafford at the age of 34 years and eight months old and went on to become a club legend.
