Manchester United Exodus to Begin in January

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United exodus could begin in January, with one star lined up for the chopping block.

The Portuguese manager may not have funds available this winter and will have to raise funds himself. With a squad like United’s, it is hard to see where that would come from with ageing players like Casemiro alongside players who are underperforming.

Marcus Rashford could be moved on in January, which could make sense, given he is one of the club’s top earners. Prospects such as Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have already been ruled off-limits, but Rashford is a name that could move on.

Rashford’s United career under Ruben Amorim.

The England star’s career at Manchester United does not seem over. Rashford has featured in all five games under Amorim but has only started two. One of those starts came in the Portuguese manager’s first game against Ipswich Town, where Rashford opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game.

According to Florian Plettenberg, the club acknowledges his development under Amorim but are open to offers due to his salary. The Englishman is currently under contract with United until 2028. Last season, the 27-year-old became the 12th Manchester United player to reach 30 goals in a season, showing there is a quality player there.

However, selling Rashford would only get one high earner out of Old Trafford; it still leaves players such as Antony and Casemiro, who have been questionable signings from Erik ten Hag. Bringing in new players seems a slightly more arduous task after the exit of Dan Ashworth, who only became sporting director at the club five months ago.

Should Rashford leave Manchester United?

Things have begun to falter for Marcus Rashford, through no fault of his own entirely. The 27-year-old has underperformed for United before Ruben Amorim’s arrival, but he has begun to develop into the player he once was. One flaw in his game has been his defensive work rate; fans have been quick to point that out, as well as manager Erik ten Hag. But given that Rashford scored 30 goals under the Dutchman last season, you could argue he gave him more time as manager with those goals.

The problem that arises is where Marcus Rashford would go if United were to sell him. Few clubs need a player like him, but the 27-year-old does need somewhere if he wants to make the next international tournament squad with England. If he is to leave Manchester United, it would most likely be abroad despite the fact he would suit a club like Chelsea, who took a risk on Jadon Sancho from United. That move has paid off recently, as he netted against Tottenham Hotspur.

Paris Saint-Germain is one club persistently linked with the United man, and it would be interesting to see if the French giants return and attempt to bring him to Parc des Princes with this development.
