Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo ahead of the upcoming window.Â
United appear to be planning their rebuild for the upcoming summer window, holding talks with Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.
The Red Devils look set to be on the verge of signing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and it seems they are now keen on adding the Brentford star to their ranks.
This is according to TalkSport, who also reported that Newcastle United are interested in the Cameroonian, who is valued at ÂŁ50 million.
Mbeumo’s contract at Brentford expires in 2026, but the club can extend it for another year.
How has Mbeumo fared this season?
It has been the 25-year-olds most productive season of his career, playing a crucial role in helping Thomas Frank’s side finish 10th in the Premier League.
Mbeumo was one of the top scorers in the league, scoring 20 goals and assisting a further seven as he started all 38 matches this campaign, putting him joint fourth for goals scored.
While enjoying an excellent Premier League campaign, the Cameroonian international struggled for form in cup competitions.
Mbeumo made four appearances in both cup competitions combined, assisting once in a 3-1 loss to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
Overall, Mbeumo made 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring 20 and assisting eight, helping guide Brentford to a 10th-place finish.
United hold talks for Mbeumo.
According to TalkSport, Manchester United have held talks with Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo ahead of the upcoming summer window.
United are not the only side interested in the 20-goal-forward, though, with Newcastle also interested in bringing in Mbeumo.
TalkSport also added that Brentford value the Cameroonian international at around ÂŁ50 million.
The Red Devils are also interested in bringing in Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Liam Delap from Ipswich Town as they look to climb the table next season.
Would this be a good signing for Manchester United?
It was a disappointing campaign for Ruben Amorim’s United, who finished the season 15th in the league, with no European football on the cards for next season.
It seems now that Amorim is preparing towards a crucial summer as he looks to rebuild his side and help guide them up the table.
To do this, United will need to bring more goals to their side; the Red Devils’ top scorer in the league this season was joint between Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, scoring eight.
One player who could help with these problems in front of goal could be Mbeumo, who has shown his ability to score in the top flight.
In 136 Premier League matches, Mbeumo has scored 42 goals and assisted a further 30 for Brentford, being a key figure for them since their promotion to the top flight.
Also, Mbeumo has shown himself to be great at bringing the ball forward and bringing his teammates into the game. The 25-year-old averaged 3.72 progressive passes per90 and 1.98 carries into the penalty area per90.
In addition, he had the most carries leading to a goal in the Premier League with nine, showing his ability to both bring the ball forward and bring his teammates into the match.
Mbeumo has also shown his reliability for Brentford; across his four seasons in the league, the winger has only missed 14 matches, which can always be seen as a good quality to have in a player.
At 25 years old, Mbeumo would be available as an option both short and long-term, being able to start for the Red Devils now and be a key figure in the future.
For ÂŁ50 million, Amorim would be getting one of the top scorers in the league and someone who has shown his quality over four years for Brentford in the top flight; for United to climb back up the table and compete, they will need to bring more goals to the table, and Mbeumo could be perfect for the job.
It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can bring in Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
