The Premier League transfer window may be closed, but that has not stopped the rumour mill from producing some huge transfer news. According to reports, Manchester United have lodged a huge £87m+ offer for AC Milan’s Rafael Leao in an attempt to see of interest from Liverpool and Manchester City.

The Red Devils had a reasonably busy transfer window in the summer, despite failing to add to the midfield. The additions of Sesko, Lammens, Cunha and Mbeumo have all gone down well with fans. However, it is clear that their business is not quite done, with suggestions of a midfielder joining in the January window, with links to Conor Gallagher refusing to die down and the chase for Brighton’s Baleba not over.

However, a new name has joined the transfer wish list and with Ruben Amorim keen to see off Liverpool and Manchester City’s interest they have, according to reports acted quickly.

Huge Transfer Bid Submitted by Manchester United

A report from Spanish outlet Fichajes has suggested that Manchester United have submitted a bid in the region of £86m to AC Milan for Rafael Leao. This may be surprising to many who have followed the club since Ruben Amorim took over. His preferred formation does not play with an out-and-out winger. Which would mean that Leao would have to play in either the left wing-back position which currently has Dorgu, Shaw, Leon and on occasion Dalot who can play in these positions. Or more likely, he is being eyed as a backup to Cunha in one of the two number 10 positions.

This would present him as an expensive back-up or would mean that the summer signing would have to be benched himself. Whilst no one expected the club to sign two number 10s in the summer, signing another player to compete in those spots would seem far-fetched even by United’s unusual transfer standards. He could be a Sesko back-up, but with links to the likes of Kane, Toney and Lewandoski emerging he seems completely different to the type of player being targeted.

It is clear he is a top talent, but it is looking increasingly likely this story is agent talk after his fine recent form.
