Premier League giants Manchester United are looking to offload striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer. There have been several links, but a surprise option to remain in the English top flight has emerged. 

Ruben Amorim has seriously strengthened his attack this summer, with the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko which has left little space for Erik ten Hag’s former big striker summer signing.

It has been made clear that Joshua Zirkzee is not for sale and will remain at Old Trafford beyond the summer window offering back up to the three attacking spots. However, Hojlund has been left out of the last two squads (one friendly one competitive) in a clear message.

This is in contrast to the player’s defiant statement over the summer that he wanted to stay and fight for his space no matter what the transfer window brought.

Since Sesko’s arrival links have emerged to AC Milan, Napoli and Atalanta. The Red Devils ideally want to sell him for approximately £40m, but may be open to a loan deal with an option to buy if there are no serious takers.

There are very few willing to offer up the eight figure sum demanded by MUFC decision makers, meaning a loan is the most likely option. Fulham have now emerged as a realistic destination according to reports from the Daily Mail. 

The move could hit a stumbling block however, with the player’s willingness to leave up for serious debate. Some reports have been suggesting that he would be open to leave, but in stark contrast to his previous comments.

Manchester United are in a better financial position than many had predicted. Their willingness to use their credit facility has helped with cash flow issues. However, with the PSR line approaching after this summer’s spending, sales are required to balance the books. Alejandro Garnacho looks to be on his way to Chelsea, whilst Jadon Sancho continues to frustrate by turning down decent moves. Hojlund would likely stay as cover but with the outcast five looking less likely to bring in the money the club require he is the solution.
