Manchester United Ready to Battle Tottenham for In-Demand EFL Star

Multiple clubs from the Premier League and the German Bundesliga are interested in signing Cardiff City youngster Dylan Lawlor.

Cardiff City have had a superb start to life since being relegated to EFL League One at the end of last season. Brian Barry-Murphy was hired to help steer the Bluebirds back into the right direction. This follows an underwhelming few seasons lingering at the bottom of the EFL Championship with no signs of climbing the table.

After six league games, Cardiff finds themselves top of the league. They have won five and drawn the other whilst only conceding once. This was a penalty against Peterborough United on the opening weekend. This is hugely due to the brave changes made by the manager. Additionally, the maturity and willingness shown by the young Cardiff academy players has been crucial. They have slotted into the side effortlessly and performed consistently week in week out.

Players such as Ronan Kpakio, Joel Colwill, Rubin Colwill, Isaak Davies and Cian Ashford have all massively impressed so far this season. However, it’s centre back, Dylan Lawlor who is attracting the attention from some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Premier League clubs are eyeing Dylan Lawlor

According to EFL Analysis, a handful of top Premier League sides have been monitoring the Welshman this season. The clubs interested are Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

It’s most likely that these sides see Lawlor as a huge prospect for the future. This means if he was to leave Cardiff City soon, his game time would be cut drastically. Although it would be helpful for him in the long run, it’s always frustrating to see a talented player not play football.

Another possible outcome is that he would be signed and then instantly loaned back to the EFL to keep playing football and improving whilst being sealed under contract for a top side.

German Bundesliga sides have also been alerted to Lawlor’s talent

German giants, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have been monitoring his progress as of late.

A move to the Bundesliga can always be such a positive move for a young player. There are a lot fewer eyes on that league, meaning Lawlor can just focus on playing football. He can avoid dealing with the highly critical English media and potential social media problems.

The Bundesliga has also had a fantastic track record recently of taking prospects and developing them into the player they had the potential to reach. Most notable players are Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland, Jamie Gittens, Jamal Musiala and Hugo Ekitike just to name a few.

How has Lawlor performed this season?

Dylan Lawlor has been a regular face in the Cardiff City starting XI this season. He has started all six league matches. As mentioned earlier, they have only conceded one goal and none from open play which really emphasises how much his defensive solidity has had a positive impact on the side.

One of Lawlor’s best traits is his ball distribution. Not only are his passes accurate but he can play some extremely dangerous balls that cut through defensive lines and cause huge problems for the opponent’s backline. This showed when he was awarded the player of the match award after producing nearly a 98% passing accuracy against Kazakhstan for Wales. His debut for his country.

Lawlor has also recently signed a new three-year deal with Cardiff conveying his importance to them and their push for an instant return to the Championship next season.
