Manchester United have been desperate to sign a new goalkeeper all window. With the 7 pm transfer deadline fast approaching, the Red Devils have finally reached an agreement to sign a new man between the sticks.
Ruben Amorim’s side have carried last season’s disappointments into the start of the new one. Goalkeeping errors from both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir have been a regular occurrence.
As a result, United have splashed the cash in the hope they have found a new number one.
Manchester United Reach Agreement To Sign Goalkeeper
According to David Ornstein, Manchester United have finally reached a total agreement for the signing of Senne Lammens.
United and Antwerp have agreed on a €21 million plus add-ons deal for the Belgium international.
Lammens will sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with no sell-on clause included in the deal.
Additionally, a medical has been booked in the hope of the deal being completed before the 7 pm transfer deadline.
What Does This Mean For Emiliano Martinez?
Previously, it was reported that Manchester United had agreed on personal terms with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
To add to that, Lammens was also in talks with Villa about a potential move.
However, with the 23-year-old now on his way to Manchester, due to Martinez’s move to United recently collapsing.
The World Cup winner is sparking interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray. With the Turkish side having already agreed a deal for Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, a deal is seen as unlikely.
Martinez seems to have already burnt any remaining bridges with Aston Villa. The 32-year-old has been looking to leave the Villans since May. As a result, a return to Villa’s starting line-up is seen as complicated.
With the deadline fast approaching, Martinez will need to get a deal done fast to ensure he plays regularly this season. The World Cup is just around the corner, and the Argentinian will want to maximise his chances of being called up.
Will Lammens Solve United’s Keeper Issues?
Lammens arrives at United with huge praise from his compatriots. The 23-year-old has been widely regarded in Belgium as the next Belgian number one after former Chelsea ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois retires from international duty.
Known for his shot-stopping ability and miraculous penalty saves, Lammens is sure to win Amorim’s side points in tight games.
However, the pressure to perform at Manchester United is huge. With more pressure on the club than ever, the onus to perform immediately will be huge.
