Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is edging closer to a £100m+ move to Saudi Arabia.
Bruno Fernandes Interested In Saudi Move from Manchester United
According to the Manchester Evening News, Bruno Fernandes is interested in a move to Saudi Arabian side, Al-Ittihad.
Fernandes has previously rejected moves to both Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal. However, after positive talks between the midfielder’s representatives and Al-Ittihad, Fernandes is now interested in a move.
The Portuguese international has reportedly asked the club for a contract worth £33 million a year.
Manchester United would want in excess of £100 million for the 30-year-old Portuguese international.
How Did He Fare Last Season at Man Utd?
Fernandes was pivotal for United last season, despite a 16th-place finish in the Premier League and no trophies.
Playing as a deep-lying playmaker, Fernandes notched an impressive 19 goals and 18 assists in 57 appearances in all competitions. This was his best season for goal contributions since his standout 2020/2021 season, where United finished second and were also beaten in the Europa League final.
Fernandes enjoyed success with the Portugal National Team. The midfielder played all 120 minutes and scored his penalty as Portugal beat Spain in the shootout to win the UEFA Nations League. This is the second time Fernandes has won the Nations League, after first winning it back in 2019.
The Portuguese is coming into his seventh season at Old Trafford, and is now open to a move away.
How Does This Impact MUFC?
Fernandes will be a huge loss for the Red Devils and it is hard to find a like-for-like replacement.
United’s captain was a big reason they made it all the way to the Europa League final last season. If it wasn’t for Fernandes, United would have been much closer to the drop zone.
It’s not just Fernandes’ quality that will be missing. The midfielder’s consistency has been exceptional during his time in Manchester. The Portuguese has accumulated double figures in both goals and assists in all his full season’s at United.
It’s safe to say that Fernandes leaving would have a negative impact on the Red’s.
