Manchester United Star Open To Leaving After Limited Game Time

Manchester United

Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly open to leaving before next week’s deadline.

The midfielder has been an unused substitute in United’s first two Premier League games this season. Mainoo has also failed to agree on a new deal at Old Trafford, with his current deal expiring in 2027.

Kobbie Mainoo Considering Manchester United Exit

According to Alex Crook, Kobbie Mainoo is considering leaving Manchester United before next week’s transfer deadline. This comes after the 20-year-old has been used as an unused substitute in both of United’s opening Premier League games.

A deal would likely be permanent, with any sale counting as 100% profit due to Mainoo coming through the Red Devils’ academy. Ruben Amorim has stated that Mainoo is currently ‘fighting with Bruno Fernandes’ in training for a spot in the team.

With Mainoo seen as an attacking eight, like Bruno, Amorim is reluctant to play the youngster next to Fernandes. Instead, the Portuguese manager opts for either Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte.

How Has Mainoo Fared In His Senior Career So Far?

Mainoo has made 72 appearances for the club since making his debut as a 17-year-old against Charlton Athletic in January 2023.

The young Englishman became a mainstay in Erik Ten Hag’s side in the 2023/2024 season. Mainoo scored five goals and assisted once in all competitions during 2023/2024. As a result of his impressive performances, the youngster was called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024.

The Stockport-born midfielder started every knockout game for the Three Lions, who were beaten by Spain in the final. Mainoo struck up a great midfield partnership with Declan Rice, and they were a big reason England made it to the final.

Mainoo made just 25 Premier League appearances in an injury-hit 2024/2025 campaign. Since the arrival of Ruben Amorim, the young midfielder has played most of his minutes in the Europa League.

It’s clear to see that Mainoo has not benefited from the arrival of Amorim. With the World Cup just around the corner, the midfielder needs to be playing week in, week out to give himself the best chance of being called up by Thomas Tuchel.

A move away from Old Trafford would do just that.
